When the previous article “A Syrian Confederation” was dispatched, many readers expressed their astonishment regarding the thesis that advocates that Syria, armed by the famous Kissinger’s strategy of “No Peace without Syria”, actually wants to swallow Jordan, Palestine and Lebanon under one confederated nation. In fact, this would be the price for Syria to enter a real and serious peace treaty with Israel; and this phenomenon has already started under the watchful eyes of … all of us!
Actually, the so-called Palestinian Intifada which has been taking place in Israel and the Palestinian “territories” was the first move by Syria to claim its control over Palestine. How is so?
Syria can now promote, through the activists it is bankrolling within the Palestinians, the Islamic Hamas and the Lebanese Hizbollah, the destabilization of the entire region. Syria provides these armed groups, including the PLO, Fatah and all of Arafat's guerillas with all the tactical, strategic, moral, financial, training and military support they need.
Where are all of the Palestinians and Hamas guerillas being trained and receiving their weapons from? Geographically and politically speaking; it can only be from Syria and its proxy Government of Lebanon; the only 2 nations bordering Israel in the Arab world that are still at war with Israel.
By initiating and arming the Intifada, Syria destabilizes the region in general, the peace process more particularly but even more so, it discredits the ability of Arafat to lead his people to an independent state.
Bottom Line: The situation in the Palestinian territories will remain unstable as long as Syria wants it to be. Arafat was never in charge of the uprising; otherwise, Israel would have exterminated him a long time ago (period).
So, the first step towards the need for a peaceful settlement between Israel and Syria has taken a rather bizarre face.
The second step now is the Syrianization of Lebanon.
The language of democracy is not comprehended in Syria. The limited democracy that existed in the Lebanon till August 9, 2001 (and now is all dead) formed a real threat to the Baath regime in Damascus. Historically, all the coup d’etats in Syria originated from Lebanon; not by Lebanese, but by Syrians who could maneuver freely in the Lebanon due to the latter's democratic system which guaranteed freedom of expression.
Suddenly, we witness the assassination of the last democratic nation in the Arab World under the watchful eyes and blessing of the West. Students, Doctors, Engineers, Architects, Lawyers and Journalists are beaten up and arrested by plainclothes intelligence militiamen simply because they were expressing their feelings against a regime that has gone bezerck and decided to crash all those who dared to speak-up publicly against the presence of the Syrian hegemony over Lebanon.
The head of an unarmed Lebanese female student being crushed by a professional martial art intelligence militiaman.Note his left and right hands positions and his body movement.
The Lebanese regime, acting from direct orders from his Syrian Masters, as usual, sent in its intelligence agents to beat-up the advocates of freedom and sovereignty.
This is the language of Peoples’ Torture that has been used in Syria for decades and is now being passed on to the Lebanon.
The only way that Syria, supported by the United States Administration, can today solidify its claim over Lebanon is by eliminating the last bastion of freedom of expression in the region. A small price to be paid by the West for peace between Syria and Israel. What we saw last week, was the “Mercy Bullet” against the democratic parliamentarian system in Lebanon shot by the Lebanese Government and Regime, clearly an instrument of Syria’s long term plans (perhaps without even knowing it…).
By eradicating all signs of freedom of expression from Lebanon, Syria can now instill a government that will create, change and pass laws in Lebanon that will allow it to become one of Syria’s geographic districts; thus the Syrianization of Lebanon on all levels and therefore the establishment of the first territory to join the Great Federal Arab Republic of Syria.
