Expose President Emile Lahoud's abuses with the US Congress

It is the goal of the USCFL to keep our members aware of what is happening in Lebanon and to use our influence among the governments of the world to allow the people of Lebanon the right to govern itself freely.

U.S. Citizens are encouraged to contact their Senators and Representatives and encourage them to express their concern to the Administration too.

SEVEN Talking Points

1. The current ruling regime in Lebanon does not represent the wishes and aspirations of the Lebanese people but those of Syria. Until the 25,000 Syrian troops remaining in Lebanon are forced to leave Lebanon, there will never be prosperity and stability in the region.

2. Lebanese and Syrian intelligence services control Lebanon and by the same token the Lebanese President and Premier along with the Speaker of the House like puppets. Hence, no need to address Lebanon's Executive and Legislative branches regarding any human rights abuses and press infringements. Go directly to the source: Syria's intelligence forces in Lebanon.

3. Contrary to popular belief and to what the Syrian propaganda machine is trying to instill in people's minds, Lebanese different religious communities have been more united than ever before. The latest meeting between Cardinal Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir and Druze leader Walid Jumblatt only confirms the point. Thus, the need for Syria is absolutely unwarranted.

4. Bashar Al Assad is no different than his father contrary to what the Western media is leading us to believe. The Old Guard is still the master of Syria's foreign policy and is not about to change unless there is a drastic turnaround in U.S foreign policy towards Syria and all of the other rogue states.

5. Syria permits numerous terrorist groups that have killed Americans to maintain facilities in both Damascus and in Syrian-occupied Lebanon, including Hizbollah, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Japanese Red Army.

6. Human rights organizations have documented Syria's unrelenting suppression of free speech and assembly, torture of prisoners, and brutal persecution of political dissidents. Syria's actions are completely contrary to America's values of freedom and democracy.

7. Syria along with its secret ally Iraq are developing a phenomenal number of Unconventional Weapons. Despite America's efforts to halt the international proliferation of unconventional weapons, Syria is racing ahead with its efforts to develop chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons, and in November 1999 conducted its first live chemical weapons test.

We urge you to:

A. Openly call for an end to Syrian occupation of Lebanon;

B. Immediately end all aid to Damascus and its satellite regime in Beirut;

C. Use all of your diplomatic powers to keep this issue alive and make the removal of Syrian forces from Lebanon the centerpiece of Middle East policies.
